The historical distortion controversy and the use of the Chinese style props "Joseon Exorcist" has spread to a number of other dramas. One of them is "Mr. Queen" which was also written by Park Kye Ok, the scriptwriter of "Joseon Exorcist".
"Mr. Queen" himself faced similar criticism when it was first shown on the screen. The drama, starring Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun, is considered to have "distorted and ridiculed" Korean history. In addition, this drama is also based on a controversial Chinese series.
To prevent further controversy, CJ ENM decided to erase all traces of "Mr. Queen" on the internet. Since Friday (26/3), all VOD services related to "Mr. Queen" as well as drama content on YouTube, Naver and other platforms have been removed.
However, a number of netizens are still worried because "Mr. Queen" content is still available on overseas streaming services such as VIKI. They were afraid that international viewers would think the "Mr. Queen" story actually took place in the real world.
Apart from impacting the drama, the controversy also dragged the main character "Mr. Queen", Shin Hye Sun. Netizens claim that Shin Hye Sun actually knew about the plot and "ridicule" of South Korean history in "Mr. Queen", but decided to star in anyway. That's why Shin Hye Sun's advertising contracts from various partnerships began to be withdrawn.
Meanwhile, "Mr. Queen" successfully scored high ratings even though the plot was quite controversial. The last episode's rating even managed to break the record with a record of 17.4 percent, peaking at 19.3 percent. With this achievement, "Mr. Queen" made it into the top five of tvN dramas with the highest ratings after "Crash Landing on You", "Goblin", "Reply 1988" and "Mr. Sunshine". (wk / eval)
