The Korean Health And Medical Workers Union Has Voiced Out To Criticize YG Entertainment For The Nurse Uniform Appearing In BLACKPINK's Latest MV, 'Lovesick Girls'.
The Korea Health and Medical Workers Union has spoken out to criticize YG Entertainment for the nurse uniform that appeared in BLACKPINK (Black Pink) 's latest music video, "Lovesick Girls". They do not accept costumes used for sexual attraction.
In one scene, Jennie is wearing a nurse uniform in the hospital with red high heels, a belt that ties around her waist. The 1996-born idol also showed his thighs with this mini dress.
Regarding the nurse costume that Jennie wore in the music video, the union stated, "Hats, tights, short skirts, and high heels are far from the actual nurse uniform, and only follow a distinctive image used for sexual appeal."
The union continued, "Although nurses are health care workers and medical professionals, the fact that there are more women than men in these professions exposes us to sexual objectification and forces us to deal with disparaging portrayals that question our expertise."
As a result, the union expressed their disappointment that YG Entertainment did the same in BLACKPINK's music video. "To deal with this problem, we put in a lot of effort, but YG Entertainment objectified the nurse in BLACKPINK's new music video. Nurses still experience unfair treatment and sexual harassment. The more times this nurse's image is repeated, the worse the situation will be."
The Korea Health and Medical Workers Union concluded by stressing the importance of using BLACKPINK's influence responsibly. "As BLACKPINK's new song is topping charts worldwide, we ask YG Entertainment to take action in accordance with BLACKPINK's popularity and influence."
Previously, netizens also questioned Jennie's nurse costume in the "Lovesick Girls" music video. It is said that Jennie's costume depicts the nurses, who are currently fighting at the vanguard against COVID-19, inappropriately.
