Sweet & Sour: Sweet in the Beginning, Sour at the End

The love triangle story is still the main attraction for romance genre films. Faced with two choices that the main character feels, it makes the audience guess who the main character will choose at the end of the story. This is also felt when watching Sweet & Sour.

Recently, Sweet and Sour has become a hot topic of conversation among viewers who have watched the film directed by Lee Gae Byeok. This film offers a simple love story that is often felt by couples in general in the real world. The story focuses on the love affair of Jang Hyeok (Jang Ki Yong) and Jung Da Eun (Chae Soo Bin) which from the start succeeded in making the audience baper with all their sweet behavior as a couple.

The film opens with the difficulties of Da Eun who works as a nurse in a hospital who doesn't have normal working hours and finds it difficult to rest. Until finally, Da Eun's days at the hospital became more colorful when she met Jang Hyeok. Intense encounters, make them feel comfortable with each other. Not to mention that Jang Hyeok's attention makes Da Eun feel that she is the one who understands her the most. Because he loves Da Eun so much, Jang Hyuk is even willing to change his appearance.

Sweet moments even more thick when the two of them live together. Like an ideal partner, Jang Hyuk successfully made baper with all his behavior and sweet words to Da Eun. But in the middle, the storyline begins to focus on Jang Hyuk's difficulties when he gets the opportunity to be transferred to a head office in a different city from where he lives with Da Eun.

The struggle of LDR must be felt by both of them. At the beginning, they seemed to be able to establish long-distance relationships and understand each other's lives. But when Jang Hyeok starts getting a big project with Han Bo Yeong (Krystal Jung) and requires him to work overtime every day, his relationship with Da Eun slowly begins to strain and conflicts begin to arise between the two of them.

Sweet & Sour also describes the reality in the world of work where the new employees' desperate efforts to get recognition are in vain. Jang Hyeok and Bo Yeong's presence and effort are not even considered by his co-workers. Instead of being rewarded, their work is given to other teams.

The character of Bo Yeong also gives a unique comedic color in this film, through his attitude that does not care about appearance when working on a project with Jang Hyeok. Unlike a third person in general who openly seduces men, at the beginning of their relationship, Bo Yeong and Jang Hyeok looked like a cat and a dog who couldn't get along. Over time, they feel comfortable and more compact in helping each other to complete the projects they are working on.

Jang Hyeok's efforts to get recognition at work, turned out to have a big impact on his relationship with Da Eun, triggering a prolonged conflict. They find it difficult to have time together because of each other's busy lives. Not only is Da Eun tired of her relationship, Jang Hyeok is also tired of having to travel a long way to meet his girlfriend.

Their relationship began to drift apart and made Jang Hyeok doubt his feelings. In those days, Jang Hyeok realized that Bo Yeong was a person who was always by his side and understood him. Unfortunately, Jang Hyeok's consciousness has to end bitterly, when he finds out that Da Eun already has a lover.

What is interesting in this film is the storyline that makes the audience willing to repeat this film from the beginning. If the plot twist is usually presented in the middle of the story, since the early minutes, Sweet & Sour has shown an unexpected plot twist. Admittedly, the script of this film deserves thumbs up and from the start the audience has been deceived by Jang Hyeok's name and also the sports shoes that Da Eun gave.
