But shortly after the video was released, the clothes worn by Dahyun and Chaeyoung became controversial. The controversy arose after BLACKPINK's stylist uploaded a screenshot of the video on Instagram Story.
In his post, the stylist questioned the similarity of the hanbok designs to the designs he made for BLACKPINK. As is known, BLACKPINK also wore hanbok which had been modified in such a way in the How You Like That MV.
"Eh ?? !! Clothing that was designed and modified by me, but I didn't make it?" wrote the stylist.
Shortly after the controversy began to get busy, JYP Entertainment immediately raised their voice. They released an official statement in the form of an apology. Here's the full statement:
Regarding the clothes Dahyun and Chaeyoung wore in the Melody Project video, the hanbok in debate was bought from a hanbok company. We didn't clearly notice the similarities. We're sorry about this.
We have provided an explanation regarding this situation and have sincerely apologized to the designers. In the future, we will be more careful so that the same incident never happens again.
Dahyun and Chaeyoung debuted under JYP Entertainment with TWICE in 2015. They debuted with Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, and Tzuyu after joining the Sixteen program.
They debuted through the album The Story Begins and immediately gained popularity. Almost all songs released by TWICE managed to steal the attention, such as TT, Signal, to I Can't Stop Me.
