Facing New Controversy, 'Penthouse 3' Now Criticized For Too Much Advertising

The SBS drama "Penthouse" season 3 has received a lot of criticism even though it has only aired two episodes. Now, the drama, starring Uhm Ki Joon, is being criticized for placing too many product advertisements (PPL).

In the latest episode of "Penthouse 3", Cheon Seo Jin (Kim So Yeon) is seen entering a cafe to meet her daughter, Ha Eun Byeol (Choi Ye Bin). He disturbs Ha Eun Byeol and Jin Boon Hong (Ahn Yeong Hong) who are eating bingsoo (shaved ice) together.

Cheon Seo Jin even started eating the ice without their consent and tried to actively communicate with Ha Eun Byeol. Although this scene shows the longing of a mother, Korean netizens have flooded it with criticism.

While bingsoo is normal to be introduced in Korean dramas, Cheon Seo Jin's dialogue and the inclusion of the cafe's name are considered redundant. In the scene, Cheon Seo Jin says, "You have to eat bingsoo like this for it to taste good."

Cheon Seo Jin then poured syrup over the bingsoo and the camera zoomed in for a clearer view. Not only that, because viewers can also see the name of the cafe, namely COFFEEBAY, very clearly during the scene.

After watching this scene, South Korean viewers immediately criticized the production team of "Penthouse 3". Because according to them, the production team does not need to place such excessive advertisements. Check out some of the netizens' comments below:

"Isn't the PPL too clear?" wrote a netter. "There are too many PPLs," added the other netters. "We just saw Cheon Seo Jin filming an ad," said another netter. "I can't focus on the drama because of all the ads," said the other netters.

Previously, "Penthouse 3" also drew strong criticism after presenting the character of Alex Lee, the older brother of Logan Lee (Park Eun Seok). The reason is, the character is described in a way that can be considered as cultural appropriation (CA). This controversy led to Park Eun Seok's apology. (wk/eval)
